Hive Hard Fork

In March 20th, 2020, [[Hive]] was born[1] after a [[hard fork]] from its previous blockchain launched in 2016 as the first social media platform that integrates blockchain and cryptocurrency. In the announcement[2]made 3 days before, the community of developers explained that Hive is a DPOS (Delegated Proof of Stake) governance blockchain created by implementing a hard fork.
## Decentralization saga The hard fork saga has captured the minds of the crypto community as a classic story of centralization vs decentralization, with the [witnesses](/wiki/Hive-Witness) and developers community on one side, and Tron founder Justin Sun on the other[3]. Justin Sun had acquired the company that launched the previous blockchain and getting exchanges to unwittingly vote with user’s funds (locking them for 13 weeks) to overthrow the community elected witnesses[4]. ## Crypto gurus support The Hive hardfork called the attention of important people of the blockchain and cryptocurrency market. Andreas Antonopoulos, pionneer Bitcoin advocate, posted on X (former Twitter) a brief timeline of the facts calling it fascinating[5]. Vitalik Buterin, founder of Ethereum, also tweeted that the hard fork had a potential positive watershed moment in the history of blockchain governance... it would be a strong demonstration that the community is in charge and cannot be bought[6]. John McAfee, computer programmer and businessman, remembered on X that communities cannot be purchased[7]. ## Related posts @arcange - [Happy 4th Hive Forkday to our community]( Published in March 20th, 2024 @themarkymark - [Blocktrades secures victory against Justin Sun]( Published in March 30th, 2023 @geekgirl - [Bittrex Returns Stolen Funds - Web3 Wins!]( Published in March 30th, 2023 @lukestokes - [How Steem Became Hive]( Published in April 5th, 2020 @hiveio - [Buzz From Around the Hive: First Week Recap, Tips, and Info]( March 29th, 2020 @penguinpablo - [My First Daily Hive Stats Report - Tuesday, March 24, 2020]( March 24th, 2020 @bala41288 - [Full Summary of events from Steemit Inc Acquisition till Hive Launch]( March 20th, 2020 ## News and articles Decrypt - [Steem vs Tron: The rebellion against a cryptocurrency empire]( Written by Tim Copeland in August 18th, 2020 Blocktv News - [The Biggest Crypto Story That No One Is Talking About]( 604 views on YouTube in May 24th, 2024, published in April 12th, 2020 Cointelegraph - [Hive Continues Independence Push as Steem Stakeholders Migrate to New Chain]( Written by Stephen O'Neal in March 25th, 2020 - [Hive Blockchain Goes Live After Successful Steem Network Hard Fork]( Written by Osato Avan-Nomayo in March 23rd, 2020 - [Steem Community Relaunches Platform as Hive to Make It Truly Decentralized]( Published in March 18th, 2020 The Block [Steem community plans hard fork to expel Justin Sun’s Steemit]( Written by Iogita Khatri in March 18th, 2020 Cointelegraph [Steem Community Relaunches Platform as Hive to Make It Truly Decentralized]( Written by Andrey Shevchenko in March 18th. 2020 BarnumPT Medium blog [Justin Sun & Friends vs Decentralization.
