Hive Hard Fork
In March 20th, 2020, Hive was born[1] after a [hard fork](https://propol.is/wiki/Hard-Fork) from its previous blockchain launched in 2016 as the first social media platform that integrates blockchain and cryptocurrency.
In the announcement[2]made 3 days before, the community of developers explained that Hive is a DPOS (Delegated Proof of Stake) governance blockchain created by implementing a hard fork.
## Decentralization saga
The hard fork saga has captured the minds of the crypto community as a classic story of centralization vs decentralization, with the [witnesses](https://propol.is/wiki/Hive-Witness) and developers community on one side, and Tron founder Justin Sun on the other[3]. Justin Sun had acquired the company that launched the previous blockchain and getting exchanges to unwittingly vote with user’s funds (locking them for 13 weeks) to overthrow the community elected witnesses[4].
## Crypto gurus support
The Hive hardfork called the attention of important people of the blockchain and cryptocurrency market. Andreas Antonopoulos, pionneer Bitcoin advocate, posted on X (former Twitter) a brief timeline of the facts calling it fascinating[5]. Vitalik Buterin, founder of Ethereum, also tweeted that the hard fork had a potential positive watershed moment in the history of blockchain governance... it would be a strong demonstration that the community is in charge and cannot be bought[6]. John McAfee, computer programmer and businessman, remembered on X that communities cannot be purchased[7].
